So I put Avett in the puppy pen and decided to take Lilly Belle out in the cold rain for pottie time. Just as I was shutting the door, I realized that I had locked it. I did not have my cell phone or my keys! I live in a second story condo so there really is no way to break in to my own house! Luckily the neighbor Mike was home and let me borrow his phone. My savior, sister Amy to the rescue! I think that I am going to give Mike a key!

Our first puppy visitor
Jen and Lee Waters came over for dinner tonight and brought Mo, their Bichon Frise to play with Avett and Lilly. Avett was scared, Lilly liked playing with Mo but he was a little too big for her (Mo is only 9 lbs). He was pretty gentle but very playful. Mo is just over 1 year old.

Favorite Toy
This was the favorite toy for the day! I know - I shouldn't be letting them bite my crocs but it kept them occupied! I took the afternoon off to spend the beautiful North Carolina day with the pups, I don't think that I am cut out to be a stay at home puppy momma!
Avett is so good in his crate but he is not a good leash walker. (sits his butt right down and is not going any further!) Lilly is HORRIBLE in the crate but is a great leash walker. (she will bark non-stop, I got on the treadmill to drown out the sound but I could still hear it!)

Crate Training
We have been reading magazines and taking advise from dog owners. Today has been the first day using the crate. When we take Avett and Lilly out together to go pottie, all they want to do is play. I left Avett in his crate and took Lilly out. I could hear him barking a little. Then.... I put Lilly in her crate and took Avett out. I could hear her barking a lot! We are not going to give up!

Everyone is Sleepy!
Jim and Avett fell asleep on the chair together. Avett is a snuggler!
Lilly Belle likes to snuggle anywhere she can to get some quiet time away from Avett!

Our Puppies
After several years of thinking about getting a puppy, we finally did it! Actually we got 2 puppies!
Avett is a Sheltie, we got him in Apex at 1:00 Friday, February 20. He was born on December 18, 2008 and currently weighs 4.4 pounds. Lilly is a Yorkie, we got her in Asheboro at 5:00 Friday, February 20. She was born on January 6, 2009 and currently weight 2.5 pounds.
They have been so much fun so far! I will highlight a few things....
- Avett is quite a bit smaller than his littermates. He was limping on his front paw when we got him but we think it was because he had his nails clipped that morning and received his puppy shots.
- Avett was such a good boy on the way to pick up his sister. We stopped at McDonald's to give him a rest and feed him and give him some water. We also stopped at PetSmart to get all kinds of goodies.
- Lilly Belle was a bit friskier than her littermates but they all were absolutely adorable. I didn't know how I was going to make a decision. Jim picked up Lilly Belle and she started licking his cheek. We knew it was love!!
- Lilly Belle was not exactly happy to leave to her family. She cried most of the way home. Finally I took her out of her crate and held her and she has been fine ever since.
- We stopped at a park on the way home and let Avett and Lilly do their business.
- When we got home, we had our first visitors - Timmie and Madison. Amy came to visit within a few minutes. I think everyone enjoyed loving on the puppies.
- Jim set up a "exercise pen" in the living room for the puppies to stay in during the day while we are at work and to sleep in at night.
- The first night we went to bed around 10:00, about 11:45 we had crying pups. We took them out to do their business and played for awhile... back to sleep. Crying puppies again at 3:00, same routine but then they slept until 7:00. That was awesome!
- Saturday morning Jim and I went to breakfast, we came home to find Avett sitting in the middle of the living room. He had jumped out of the pen. Jim had to take it apart and go buy a taller one. I think Avett was very proud of himself!
- Jim and Matt went to the NC State vs Virginia basketball game. (Yeah, State won!) Madison came over to help take care of the dogs. I think Madison is in love! We went to Petco and PetSmart, received lots of compliments on our cute puppies. Grandma Z was waiting for us - I think she was excited to meet her new grandpups.
- We put a blanket out in the yard and had a ball with Lilly and Avett. Lilly fell asleep on Madison for a very long time.
- Malaina and Skylyn came for a visit. They were not too impressed with the puppies. They just wanted lollipops and to play in B's shower and bathtub!
- Sunday, Avett and Lilly had their first vet visit. Avett had round worms which caused me to freak out and get them to the vet immediately and not wait for their Monday appointment. They were perfect angels and even fell asleep on the floor.
- It was a bit cold on Sunday so I decided to put Lilly's sweater on before we went out. Avett was not having any of that! He pulled her around by her sweater until I took it off. We will have to try that again soon!
- Monday was a little difficult to go to work, leaving my babies at home! I came home at lunch to find 2 #1s on the puppy pad. I took them out, Lilly was walking on the hill (not falling or anything) and Avett decided that she didn't need to do that so he bit onto her leash and pulled her up the hill. I think he is a protective big brother.
- Monday evening, I taught Avett and Lilly to find our door once I put them down at the top of the stairs (we live in a second story condo). Avett even climbed a step, Lilly is still a bit small!
- When I came home for lunch today, there was just 1 #1 on the puppy pad. I am so proud of them, they are doing so good!
- Avett and Lilly had both been scared to go off the curb and across the parking lot so I have been carrying them. Tonight Lilly got brave and did it all on her own. Avett at least came to the curb, maybe tomorrow he will jump down!
- Avett and Lilly had their first experience on our patio. They loved it, they were chasing each other around.
- Sunday and Monday, our babies slept through the night! They may have played during the night but no messes!
